Sustainability at Funktafest 9
In Partnership with Marshall University’s Sustainability Department
At Funktafest 9, we’re taking a giant step toward a greener future. Thanks to our executive sponsor, the Marshall University Sustainability Department, we’re proud to present this year’s festival as an official Sustainability Month event—with a strong commitment to becoming as waste-free as possible.
What This Means for Funktafest 9:
Full Recycling & Composting Support
Marshall University’s Sustainability team and student volunteers will oversee all compost, recycling, and landfill collection throughout the festival grounds. You’ll find clearly marked bins in all high-traffic areas, including backstage, hospitality, food trucks, the concession stand, front gate, and restroom areas.
Eco-Friendly Food Service
We’re working closely with our food vendors to encourage the use of sustainable service-ware—so every bite you take has a smaller footprint.
Live Emcee Announcements
Our emcee will make regular announcements throughout the festival to help attendees sort their waste properly and learn how to support the festival’s eco-efforts.
Sustainability Education
Stop by the MU Sustainability booth on Saturday at 5PM for an educational workshop on sustainable practices and how you can apply them beyond Funktafest.
Together with Marshall University, we believe that celebrating music and art should never come at the expense of the planet.
